EXODUS 12:1-28, 43-51

HEAR:

The Israelites have been enslaved for generations and Moses has just been sent by God to demand Pharaoh let them go. Even after the plagues, Pharaoh still refuses to let the Israelites go. In preparation for the final plague, God gives instructions for the Passover ritual that we see in these verses.

Use this time to listen to the Holy Spirit. Specifically think about:

  • In order to really understand your freedom in Christ you must leave behind your old ways. Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight and areas of your “old self” that you need to leave behind. (v. 15)

  • The freedom offered through Christ is for all, and not just for a select group of people. Are you operating as if this is true? (v. 48)

  • Do you believe that God will deliver you out of your “Egypt”? Search you heart for any unbelief you hold for God’s ability to deliver your out of your present circumstances. (v. 51)

RESPOND:

The Israelites withstood generations of enslavement. In these verses we see God preparing them for freedom - something they had not known for a long time. This preparation included ways to worship. God encourages worship and our worship to Him should be a reflection of the freedom He has given us.

Use God’s word to pray back to him. Respond to God:

  • Ask that the Lord be with you as you seek to gain freedom through Christ. His protection is crucial and He offers it freely to us. (v.13)

  • Gratitude sustains worship. Thank the Lord for all He has and will deliver you from. (vv.14,47)

  • Pray that we may be obedient to the Lord and His commands because this is where true freedom is found. (v. 50)
