JUDE 17-23
17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
Jude is wrote this letter to warn Christians about false teachers who are distorting the grace of God into a license for immorality. He ends the letter with these verses as a call for perseverance.
HEAR:
Listen to the Holy Spirit. You may specifically think about:
Are there areas where you’ve become numb to sin or too casual in your interactions with spiritual danger? Invite the Spirit to reveal any areas where ungodly passions may be influencing your thoughts, choices, or priorities (v.18).
Is there someone in your life that might be doubting? Intercede for them to see Jesus rightly, and ask that God would give you a spirit of compassion and discernment to approach them with mercy and humility (vv. 22-23).
How can you cultivate your heart to be patient and expectant as you wait for Jesus’ return (v.21)?
RESPOND:
Respond to God in prayer –
Ask the Holy Spirit to keep us alert and discerning in a culture of spiritual compromise. Pray that we would not be swayed by scoffing voices or self-serving desires, but remain grounded in truth (v.18).
Pray that we would be a people who are continually built up in our faith. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead us in prayer that flows from intimacy, not just obligation (v.20).
Pray that we would be a people marked by unity instead of division, rooted in the Spirit. Seek help to cultivate a community and a city that reflects His heart of mercy and grace. (vv. 19, 21).
