MARK 4:35-41:

35 On that day, when evening had come, he told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.” 36 So they left the crowd and took him along since he was in the boat. And other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 He was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we’re going to die? ”39 He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Silence! Be still! ” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith? ”41 And they were terrified and asked one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”

HEAR:

Listen to the Holy Spirit and pray. Specifically think about:

  • What fears do you have in your own life. Bring it to Jesus and allow His peace to confront your fear (v.40). See that the Lord hasn’t given you a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7).

  • Do you trust that the Lord can create peace in trouble? See that even the wind and the sea obey him (v.41).

  • What are the areas in your life that you think Jesus is asleep to? See that the Lord who watches over you will not slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121)

RESPOND:

Respond to God in prayer. You can specifically pray:

  • Ask God to release a great calm over our city, that we may be more aware of His presence (v.39).

  • Pray that God would raise up witnesses to the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, that our city may encounter the peace of Jesus (Acts 10:34-36). (Good news of peace through Jesus)

  • Intercede on behalf of the younger generations that have been deemed the “anxious generation”. Jesus said “peace, be still” over the storm – pray these words over the anxious generation

1 PETER 5:6-7:

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.
