JAMES 5:7-11
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. 8 You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near. 9 Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door! 10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name as an example of suffering and patience. 11 See, we count as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about — the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
HEAR:
Listen to the Holy Spirit and pray. You may specifically think about:
Like seeds, we wait for fruit as it grows where we can’t see it. Today, value the Lord just for His presence even while we wait for the fruit of our prayers. (v.7)
Listen for the Holy Spirit to identify where you may need to keep waiting, to keep enduring. (v.8)
Remember how the Lord has provided in your life, and dwell on how capable He is. If you can’t remember, dwell on Job chapters 38-39 to read of His capability.
RESPOND: Respond to the Lord in prayer:
Confess anywhere you have not trusted the Lord, especially if it has led to complaining or grumbling against God or others. (v.9)
Ask for the endurance and the strength of the Lord, that we would be blessed like the examples that have gone before us. (v.10)
Contend for fruit within the city of Boston - The Lord is compassionate and merciful, and wishes for the city to come to himself. So pray for this fruit to keep growing; pray for the rains that bring this fruit. (v.7)
