MARK 10:46-52

A Blind Man Healed

46 They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, “Have mercy on me, Son of David!”

49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage!Get up; he’s calling for you.” 50 He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.

51 Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

“Rabboni,” the blind man said to him, “I want to see.”

52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.

HEAR:

Spend some time listening to the Lord in prayer:

• Are there other people or things that are trying to keep you from going after Jesus? Like Bartimaeus, press into Jesus and cry out all the more.

• The blind man threw off his coat as an act of faith and a symbol of his surrender to Jesus (he would no longer need it for begging after being healed) and a step towards new life. What do you need to throw off and rush to Jesus with?

• Do you recognize your need? Bartimaeus knew his need and his desire to see, and recognized Jesus as the only one to meet him.

RESPOND:

Respond to the Lord in prayer –

• Pray for the increase of faith. In faith, Bartimaeus threw off his coat and drew close to Jesus.

• Ask Jesus to come by our city. That Boston would be a city called “the Lord is there” (Ezekiel 48:35) and that Jesus would dwell here.

• Pray for an increased desperation in the heart of our city, that we would be desperate to be near Jesus and see him.

• Ask God to break off all spiritual blindness – that we would see and follow Jesus.
